Popular Painting Places Near the North Shore Arts Association

The North Shore Arts Association (red building in the lower left corner) can be seen just across the harbor from where the Friendship from Salem, Massachusetts, was moored on a recent visit. Within a short distance of NSAA is a wealth of painting locations that have been popular with artists from around the world for over a century. All the images shown here are within a few minutes of our gallery.

Friendship sails into Gloucester's inner harbor past the Paint Factory on the horizon.

At Harbor Loop across the water a statue of American luminist Fitz Henry Lane marks the spot from where he painted. The masts of the Picton castle are seen behind it. Lane's studio was also the occupied by Edward Hopper when he worked in Gloucester.

On the state fish pier at the head of Gloucester harbor fishermen can often be found repairing their nets.

The other Hammond Castle just beyond Ten Pound island on Gloucester Harbor is privately owned but is visible from many nearby locations.
